Peaceful Poinsettia for Lovely Handmade Christmas Cards

The Peaceful Poinsettia Bundle in the Holiday Catalog from Stampin’ Up! is perfect for making lovely handmade Christmas Cards.

This Bundle is very versatile, which is always a good thing to look for when you’re choosing new stamps and dies to purchase. Some of the dies can cut designs out of a piece of cardstock, which can then be made into your card front. You can see an example of that in  this post: Peaceful Poinsettias

For this card I wanted to color, and got out my Stampin’ Blends. I didn’t need to do much blending, but I wanted the rich bright colors the alcohol markers give me. The colors I used are: Dark Lovely Lipstick (flower), Dark Cherry Cobbler (berries), and Light and Dark Call Me Clover.

Here’s a tip for you: If you’re like me and don’t like the look of a stark white outline on your colored die-cuts, color the white spaces with Light Smoky Slate or Light Crumb Cake. I used Smoky Slate on this one. Don’t you think the die-cuts look better without the stark white outlines?

In case you didn’t notice, the 2018 Holiday Catalog has several new colors of Stampin’ Blends that have now been added to the collection: Basic Black, Blackberry Bliss, Cajun Craze, Mango Melody, Real Red, and Shaded Spruce. You can see all the available colors of Stampin’ Blends using this link: Blends Alcohol Markers.

There’s a Framelit die to cut out the flower and leaves, but I wanted more dimension and I did some fussy cutting to add more layers to both leaves and flower.

The Very Vanilla background was embossed with the Tufted Dynamic Embossing Folder. The camera didn’t pick it up real well, but you can see the embossing better in this close-up.

Here’s another tip for when you hand cut stamped images: When you finish cutting, go over the edges of the cardstock to add color to the cut edges. I always do that from the back so I don’t accidentally slip and mess up my work. Want to know how I know that?
