Sweet Sugarplum is the next new In Color from Stampin’ Up! that you’re going to love! That’s if your color preferences are similar to mine, anyway. Check out this handmade card, with the flower from Birthday Blooms and a background created with Work of Art and Timeless Textures.
In the last sample I shared of a card using one of the new In Colors, I got a bit heavy handed with the Timeless Textures images. You can see it here: Dapper Denim. In contrast, this card got a very light touch on the background, and feels much more like my style. If you’re going to design cards, you’ll feel more confident when you have a good sense of your own style.
Sweet Sugarplum combined beautifully with Garden Green and Tip Top Taupe for a striking color combination. Without the Garden Green mat, I felt the color scheme was too heavy on the pastels, and needed some contrast. But when I used a 1/4″ mat or even a 3/16″ mat of the green, it pulled too much attention away from the focal point. The 1/8″ mat was the perfect complement, don’t you think?
If you want to read more about why you should consider varying mat sizes on your handmade cards, take a look at this post: Why Use 3/16″ Mats . You’ll also find a video there on how to measure 16ths on a ruler and a paper cutter.
The 1/8″ mat is the trickiest to use, because the mat is so thin, and it’s challenging to get the layers on straight. But sometimes it’s worth the extra trouble when larger mats just don’t complement the design.
You’ll find the new In Colors in the 2016 Annual Catalog from Stampin’ Up! Most of my customers have been contacted and their catalogs sent out in the past couple weeks. If you haven’t heard from me and think I missed you, please give me a call or send an email. I do make mistakes!
If you’d like to become a Stamping Madly customer, I’d love to make sure you have a catalog of your own! There’s nothing like having the printed version and being able to add post-its to pages with items you want or have questions about. Use this link to fill out a request: 2016 Annual Catalog. Then I’ll call to make sure I have the correct contact information, and take a moment to learn about your interests. That way I can provide better customer service as your Demonstrator. 🙂
Meanwhile, check back soon to see cards made with the new Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo. I hope these cards give you a good look at Sweet Sugarplum and the other new In Colors from Stampin’ Up!
