Here are three design tips that explain why this simple card is so effective:

  1. Artwork:  It’s very clear where the eye is supposed to land.  The Blackberry Bliss sentiment draws the attention right away.  The graceful flourish gives a diagonal line for the eye to follow, and the pearls (Basic Pearls) accentuate that path all the way through the sentiment and down to the little heart.
  2. Colors:  This is a high contrast color scheme.  The soft Mint Macaron has plenty of white in it to make it a pastel.  It is striking against the Blackberry Bliss, a deep purple with plenty of black in it to increase the contrast.  You can imagine how different this design would look if the purple were another pastel.   Pretty, but the colors wouldn’t pop as much!
  3. Repeating Motif:  Do you see how the pearls repeat the effect of the embossed dots on the background?  (Softly Falling Embossing Folder)  Subtle attention to detail like this helps bring all the parts of the card into harmony.

The flourish needs to be light enough so it doesn’t compete with the sentiment.  You can easily achieve that effect by “stamping off.”

Definition:  To stamp off means to ink a stamp, then stamp some of the ink on scratch paper before stamping on your card stock.

You could use many different sentiments on this design.  You’ll need something bold enough to catch the attention, but with a font that complements the graceful flourish.  This one is from a great little stamp set from the Annual Catalog called Timeless Love.

Just imagine how your friend or family member would feel when they open this card!  It’s simple enough to put together quickly, and elegant enough to make a great impression!
