If you’re looking for a fun handmade birthday card, look at what you can do with the Big Day and Work of Art Stamp Sets. You can earn Big Day for FREE during Sale-a-Bration, which makes it especially appealing! Just order $50 worth of Stampin’ Up! merchandise, and you’ll earn one FREE item!
You can see the first Big Day Birthday Card I showed in this post: Big Day and Blendabilities. But in case you think all that coloring would be rather tedious, I wanted to show how the Work of Art stamp set can be used to do the coloring for you! Although I did use Blendabilities on the tag to make it stand out from the background better.
The tag on this card is made with the Ornate Tag Topper Punch, and the bottom edge is cut with the Small Scallop Rotary Trimmer Blade, which is used with the Rotary Addition for the Stampin’ Trimmer (See a video here: Stampin’ Trimmer Goes Rotary). Don’t you just love the sweet little touch it gives?
In case you missed it, you can see the video on how to make a mat for this tag in this post: How to Cut Mats for Scalloped and Ornate Topped Tags.
Work of Art is a fascinating stamp set, with stamps that mimic brushstrokes. This set challenges me to create in a different way than most of the other stamps in my collection, so I’ve been experimenting with it a lot. I’m loving all the effects I’m getting. You can see another sample using the set in this post: Handmade Valentine. There’s also a series of cards using this year’s In Colors. You can see those cards in a video in this post: Using Colors Effectively.
Do you notice what looks like Crisp Cantaloupe in the Blendabilities coloring on the tag? That comes from a little trick I learned to lighten a Blendabilities color. The color on the tag is actually done with Light Calypso Coral, diluted with the Color Lifter. You can learn about this technique in the video in this post: Indescribable Gift and Blendabilities.
What do you think of the background on the top half of this card? Pretty cool, huh?! It’s made by stamping off before stamping on the card stock. Here’s a quick video to show you what I mean:
