Actually the phrase,"sick as a dog" is traced back to the 17th century and refers to a dog's tendency to eat anything, whether digestible or not. The next step is the upchucked version of whatever was eaten, usually on your favorite rug. And in front of company if possible.
OK, maybe that's a bit too graphic. I haven't actually been upchucking, but the thermometer is real. Sammy Jane (Dog Princess of the House) has been pacing around very nervous that our routine is totally disrupted, and that all I can do is sleep!
