The Gently Falling stamp set from Stampin' Up! combines with the coordinating Designer Series Paper, Spice Cake, with beautiful results. This card makes me think of Thanksgiving, good smells from the kitchen, and leaves rustling on an after-feast walk!
Gently Falling is a 2 Step set, one of my favorite kinds to work with. Here I used the Rock and Roll Technique on the fill image, using Pool Party, More Mustard, and Cajun Craze. Then I stamped the outline image with Early Espresso.
This card cried out for a big, floppy, elegant bow. So I combined Victoria Crochet Trim and Soft Suede 3/8" Taffeta with two buttons and some Linen Thread. Ooh la la, so soft and elegant!
The background is from Spice Cake Designer Series Paper. As I shared with you in a post last week More Mustard has been a color I rarely use. But since Stampin' Up! came out with this beautiful paper, I've been using More Mustard a lot!
When I first started stamping, there were many colors I couldn't relate to. Over time, however, I've added one after another of the "orphan" colors, as I sometimes call them. I still have a few neglected ones, but I push myself to add them to my palette. It is very satisfying to find I can create a lovely card even with colors I didn't particularly like. Often that orphan color earns a place in more projects–the payoff for pushing past my comfort zone!
I hope you will start to play with your orphan colors, too. You might be surprised with what you come up with. I usually play with combining them with colors I like that bring out the best in the orphans. Why don't you see what new colors will find a place in your palette!
