Here's a handmade card using the great new set, Summer Solstice from Stampin' Up!
The butterfly and flowers are embossed in Cherry Cobbler on So Saffron, Peach Parfait, and Blushing Bride. I love how they "pop" off the background of Cherry Cobbler. I added Cherry Cobbler brads to the flowers, and a tiny Basic Pearl to the butterfly for even more dimension.
The quote from e.e.cummings (found in the Fabulous Florets set) seemed like the perfect addition to this card. I stamped the Cherry Cobbler background was stamped tone-on-tone with the flourish from Creative Elements.
As you have proably noticed by now, I love embossing! I heat emboss or dry emboss on almost all of the cards I design. Are you familiar with those terms? Here's what I mean:
- Heat embossing is where you use some "sticky" ink–VersaMark, Craft Ink, or a combination of VersaMark and Classic Ink–cover it with Embossing Powder, and then melt it with the Heat Tool. The images are then raised off of the card stock, and sparkle a bit. It really makes your images pop, and gives both texture and dimension to your project. You can use either clear or colored Embossing for different effects. I used Cherry Cobbler Craft Ink and Clear Embossing Powder for the flowers on this card, and VersaMark with White Embossing Powder for the quote.
- Dry embossing is where you create raised areas in the card stock. Stampin' Up! has the best tools for dry embossing–the Big Shot and Embossing Folders. You can get a beautiful embossed design quickly and easily with the folders. Before they came out with the folders, you had to used brass embossing templates, a stylus, and a light box. The effect was beautiful, but very time-consuming to create. The Embossing Folders are available in 16 different designs at this time, all exclusive to Stampin' Up!, and each new catalog usually adds one or more new folders to the collection. The Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, shown above, is only one of the wonderful designs available. You can see an example of it used in a project HERE.
