Getting Ready for the Holidays

Whether you are getting ready for Thanksgiving guests or looking for an idea for handmade Christmas gifts, here is a project that is well-suited for the holidays:

Travertine marble tiles make perfect coasters or trivets.  Give them as gifts with a handmade box or use them in your own home.  The tiles are stamped with the En Francais background stamp, then stamped with the Medallion stamp in craft inks.  Clear embossing powder was sprinkled on the image, then the tiles were baked in the oven until the powder melted–about 6 to 8 minutes.  Very simple, and a striking outcome.

I set the oven at 350. At 6 minutes I checked to see if the embossing powder had all melted. If not, I put them back in for another couple minutes. With the Medallion stamp the ink is so thick it took a little longer than some other designs.
